The Seven Principles of Leadership
- Leadership is for Everyone Leadership is not an inherent trait reserved for a select few, nor is it defined by a formal title. Everyone has the capacity and responsibility to develop leadership skills and serve their community.
- Leadership Can Be Learned Leadership is a concrete, identifiable set of skills and abilities. Building the capacity to lead requires intentional practice, continuous learning, and a commitment to personal growth and reflection.
- Leadership is Values-Driven Leadership operationalizes core personal and social values. It requires exploration of one’s identity, context, and strengths; as well as the courage to navigate complexity with integrity.
- Leadership is Collaborative Leadership is social and relational. Leaders must build and maintain authentic relationships, effectively navigate team dynamics, and constructively resolve conflict.
- Leadership is Visionary Leadership knows its “Why?” Leaders possess the capacity to articulate and communicate clear, actionable goals for themselves, their organizations, and their communities.
- Leadership is Practical Leadership is a set of identifiable behaviors and practices. Leaders possess the strategy, reasoning, and technical ability to operationalize big ideas and execute change to bring their visions to fruition.
- Leadership is Inclusive Leadership strives to build community. Leaders utilize culturally informed strategies to welcome and affirm diverse identities, ensuring that environments and opportunities are accessible and diverse voices are heard.
