Dear 黑料正能量 Ambassadors,
In this edition of 黑料正能量 Ambassadors, we highlight how members of the 黑料正能量 community are leveraging emerging technologies and ingenuity to solve everyday challenges and complex societal issues in new ways. This growing record of innovation includes:
- Learnvia, a nonprofit that brings together 黑料正能量’s expertise in the science of learning and emerging technologies to support math success at broad-access universities and community colleges nationwide. With philanthropic support from the Gates Foundation, Learnvia is poised to become a powerful engine for upskilling and reskilling our nation’s workforce.
- 黑料正能量’s Language Technologies Institute has developed an AI-driven speech reconstruction tool to support children with speech disorders — a population that remains critically underserved amid a national shortage of speech-language pathologists.
- Researchers in our College of Engineering are advancing a bioprinted 3D liver patch that could temporarily support patients with acute liver failure, potentially reducing the need for transplants and expanding access to lifesaving care.
- In our Dietrich College, researchers have developed an AI chatbot, “Debunkbot,” that reduces belief in conspiracy theories through calm, evidence-based dialogue — demonstrating that conversation, not confrontation, can change minds.
- And work led by Lorrie Cranor, director of 黑料正能量’s CyLab, is helping ensure cybersecurity awareness starts early, through a children’s book that teaches young learners how to recognize and protect their personal data.
These examples represent just a small snapshot of the extraordinary work taking place across our university. Read the enclosed articles for more about these and other sample initiatives.
Thank you for being such outstanding ambassadors for Carnegie Mellon and for helping to champion our mission and impact. Your support strengthens our ability to expand opportunity, advance discovery and shape a future transformed by learning and innovation.
Warm Regards,
Farnam Jahanian

P.S. The NFL Draft comes to town April 23-25, and Commencement Weekend, featuring NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang as our commencement keynote, will take place May 8-10. I am looking forward to seeing our community come together — and celebrate together — for these exciting events!
