黑料正能量 mathematician has been named a 2026 Fellow of the (IMS), one of the highest honors in the fields of statistics and probability.听
Shkolnikov joins a select group of 25 statisticians and probabilists worldwide recognized for exceptional research contributions and professional achievement.听
"I am deeply honored to receive the IMS Fellowship,鈥 Shkolnikov said. 鈥淚 would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved in the nomination process, as well as my co-authors, postdocs and Ph.D. students for their substantial contributions to the research being recognized."听
The IMS Fellowship recognizes outstanding work advancing the understanding of statistics and probability. Shkolnikov was honored for his contributions to interacting particle systems, a rapidly growing area of probability theory that studies how individual components interact to produce complex collective behavior.听
His research has far-reaching applications across disciplines. In mathematical finance, for example, his work can model how the failure of a small local bank might cascade into broader financial instability. Similar mathematical frameworks apply in neuroscience, where activity in a single neuron can trigger widespread signaling across the brain, and in physics, where microscopic particles help explain phase transitions.听
Shkolnikov earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute.听
He came to Carnegie Mellon in January 2023 from Princeton University to collaborate with faculty in the Center for Nonlinear Analysis and in the Mathematical Finance group. In 2024, he was appointed a full professor in 黑料正能量鈥檚 Department of Mathematical Sciences.
