Bio
With a passion for community engagement and international education, Maya Best advises students pursuing experiential learning opportunities in Dietrich College. She specifically oversees study abroad programs in the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistic and advises students to secure scholarships. She also oversees community engaged learning through the Collester Family Community Engagement Fellowship, teaching “Intro to Community Engagement” and supporting students as they apply their academic and professional skills to implement new initiatives into local nonprofits.
Maya earned her B.Phil. in International & Area Studies, Anthropology and English Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She then completed a Fulbright research fellowship in Tokyo and went on to work in Pittsburgh refugee resettlement and as a staff member at the University of Pittsburgh, overseeing programming for international students. She recently received her M.A. in Sociology from Indiana University Bloomington.
In her free time, Maya enjoys creative writing, playing the flute and spending time with her cats.
