Bio

Sean Carroll is an artist using photography and video, who focuses on ongoing thematic projects that archive everyday surroundings in a variety of settings over time, often in close connection to his personal life. He uses photography to collect and catalog, making pictures that document particular places and experiences by paying attention to the changes and subtle, sometimes humorous, inaccuracies found in the world. Often emphasizing analog materials, his projects are manifest in a variety of media including darkroom prints, handmade printed matter, digital prints, and online applications.

Sean was raised near Boston and has been living in Pittsburgh since 2016. He studied photography and visual media at American University in Washington, DC, including a fellowship at the Faculty of Film and Television at the Academy of Performing Arts, Prague (FAMU). In 2006, he received an MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. While based in New York City, Sean was an Education Manager at The Center for Photography at Woodstock, the Program Manager for Artist Residencies at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and a Producer and Studio Manager in the commercial photography industry. He's been an Adjunct Instructor in CFAPhoto since 2019.
